Today I went to Half Price Books. I don't really understand the way they value things. Like, most of the books are all half price, some cheaper; and the dvds are a good price too. Selling is what I don't get, I brought in at least seven books and the first season of Glee on dvd and they only gave me $10. I bought $40, well $30 if you count what I got for the things I sold. I got Wuthering Heights and The Giver, Clockwork Angel was an impulse buy. I have a strong feeling that I got something else, but I just don't remember. The dvds I got were Eternal Sunshine, Tristan&Isolde, and The Wedding Date.

My favorite in Big Brother is Ashley. She's not a strong player and she's not going to win, but she's so sweet; she just makes me smile. I think Danielle is going to win. I can see it, she has that sweet southern girl personality and I really think she can play the game. I really like that Shane wears pink all the time. It looks great with his skin and hair and eyes. If you can pull it off so well, why not?

Show me a garden that's burning into life.

The comcast guy came today. He did whatever he does outside and in the attic, he checked the tvs to make sure they were working and he left. Tracy and I sat down to watch a show and it stopped working. Not even 15 minutes after he left! So I called them again and told them that we had this problem and a guy came out, but now it's out again and they need to send someone back out. They said it would be approximately an hour, and approximately an hour later they called and said no one was available. They gave me an appointment time of 5-7 on Saturday. Even if you completely set aside our dinner plans on Saturday, that's 5 days without the cable. And so I just vented onto this guy a little and kinda yelled that we were without tv for a week, but the bill this month is still going to be the same as always. I know he has nothing to do with it, but he's the middleman who made me angry.

Robby texted me this picture the other day, it was a building shaped like the Titanic. So of course I had to google it. It's a museum in Branson, Missouri. It looks, for the YouTube video, a little childish, but it has stories from survivors and a memorial wall and artifacts. Two things in the video really got my attention; first was the life vest. How cool! I wonder if that's an actual vest from the ship or just one that they made at that time. Second was the staircase! OMG how beautiful! I can imagine having a picture of myself sitting on the stairs to the Titanic's main dining hall. Oh, I think I dreamed of it last night. I wonder if it's always there or if's an anniversary thing.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first.

I got my entire order from Kohls today. I worried about it for nothing. Just when the first two things arrived seperatly it worried me, and getting thos help email from the store worried me. But it all came, and I crossed everything off my list. I bought a few pair of jeggings; mostly denim, one pair royal blue, and one pair eggplant.

I got my paper cutter today and I'm very happy about that. I want to finish this scrapbook I'm making for Aunt Susie because I'll be seeing her next weekend.

I got my Disney Scene-It game in the mail! I only paid $20 buying it from ebay, instead of the $70 store price. And now I want to play. I wonder how long I'll have to wait.

A kiss would change my whole life again.

I'm pretty excited for the new season of Fringe. I'm curious what happens with Etta, but I'm also pretty worried about Olivia. If she wasn't rescued from the amber, what happened to her? I have a feeling that they were all set to go into the amber, it wasn't some sort of accident; it was a plan. And at the last second Bell pushed Olivia out of the way. I'm worried that Olivia isn't going to be in half the episodes!

I'd also just like to say that I love that little girl's name. Actually I don't personally like it all, but Henrietta fits into the show so beautifully. It really does show how closely alternate universe are connected even if they're not aware or don't remember or whatever. I just don't like that Ella and Etta are cousins. I don't think they planned the show out as carefully as LOST.

I love you like a love song, baby.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
5/5  -fantastic!
dystopia, adventure, love, mature, movie, young adult, multiple reads

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before...and surprising readers at every turn.

<<<>>>

I liked this better the second time around, which is saying something because I loved it the first time. The first time, I think it felt rushed. This time everything seemed just right. And I think I grew to like Peeta even more this time around.

I believe that fate has brought us here.

The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks
4/5  -just wonderful
adult fiction, alternate views, contemporary, family, love, mature, movie

When U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman half-buried in the dirt during his third tour of duty in Iraq, his first instinct is to toss it aside. Instead, he brings it back to the base for someone to claim, but when no one does, he finds himself always carrying the photo in his pocket. Soon Thibault experiences a sudden streak of luck—winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat that kills two of his closest buddies. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph—his lucky charm.

Back home in Colorado, Thibault can’t seem to get the photo—and the woman in it—out of his mind. Believing that she somehow holds the key to his destiny, he sets out on a journey across the country to find her, never expecting the strong but vulnerable woman he encounters in Hampton, North Carolina—Elizabeth, a divorced mother with a young son—to be the girl he’s been waiting his whole life to meet. Caught off guard by the attraction he feels, Thibault keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate and all-consuming love affair, the secret he is keeping will soon threaten to tear them apart—destroying not only their love, but also their lives.

<<<>>>

She decided to trust him even though he was a marine? I would be willing to overlook all the weird behavior because he was a marine.

I like reading tiny little snippets of Logan's time in Iraq without being bombarded with war stories.

I fell in love with this love story. I think it was all the talk about fate and destiny and balance, I liked that. I hope the movie lives up to this.

**Spoiler** I didn't like the end. I thought that the wrong person died, or rather the wrong person lived.

I can't be the one who's always taking chances.

Let's talk about TV. The Emmys are on the 23 of the month; I'm not exactly a fan of the awards. I like the red carpet and all that, but I feel the awards should stick to network shows. Cable shows shouldn't count, especially HBO shows. I feel like I don't even know most of the shows that are nominated. The only drama series nominated that isn't on cable is Downton Abbey. Do Network shows really suck so bad that they can't find even one to nominate?  Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Breaking Bad; these series pop up multiple times for each category. In fact the only categories that have expected network wins are Mayim Bialik for Big Bang Theory and Ed O'Neill for Modern Family. And even that's wrong because Max Greenfield from New Girl should win. I don't know how many times I have said this and I will continue to say it until it happen, GIVE JOHN NOBLE AN EMMY! He is the greatest actor I may have ever seen on television. Sci-fi shows don't get much recognition, but this is about the man's acting! We have one more year and Fringe, John Noble, and Anna Torv should sweep the drama category next year!

The new fall TV season is coming up. There aren't many shows that I'm excited for, honestly, but here's my line up. On Sunday we have The Good Wife. I always do like that show and Archie Panjabi should win that Emmy!

Monday is Bones. And let's be honest, it should have ended a while ago. Of course I'll still watch though. I'm actually very curious about some of the upcoming plot lines that were given away in Entertainment Weekly magazine; a modern day Jack the Ripper, solving a neanderthal murder, and going undercover as ballroom dancers. I love when Booth and Brennan go undercover!

I have hopes for Revolution. I think the whole idea is very intriguing, it's just my genre. Plus, Erik Kripke and JJ Abrams coming together is great.

I really do think that Castle and Beckett can go all the way. I'm interested in seeing how they're going to figure things out at the beginning of the season. I see a bright future for the two. I'm super excited that Castle re-runs are going to start airing on TNT!

Tuesday will be New Girl for me. I really enjoy that show and the humor there.

Wednesday is SVU, but the show just isn't the same without Christopher Meloni. Modern Family, but I haven't seen the finale from the previous season. I liked Suburgatory just fine, so I'll keep up with that. I'm surprised that Supernatural is on Wednesday nights, seems out of place.

Thursday has Last Resort. The trailer captured my attention so I'll give that a shot. And of course, The Office is on. Even though it should have ended years ago, I'll watch this final season if only to find out who is making this damn documentary and why.

And finally, the night where shows go to die, Friday night. Fringe! I am so excited for Fringe, especially after reading the little paragraph about what to expect from this final season.

I'm a silly love song.

In Twilight, there's this moment when Edward and Bella are just talking and they realize how late it is. Edward tells her that it's twilight and that it's, "the safest time for us." I thought that this comment would be explained, but it never was. I desperately want to know what that means!

I can't replace all of the wasted days.

At a funeral, or other sad event where people are crying, do you feel an obligation to cry as well, even if you aren't as much a cryer as other people are?
I feel like I'm more of a cryer than other people. I wouldn't ever feel an obligation to cry...that's just weird. But if I see other people crying, it makes me want to cry too.

What animal (or insect, etc) are you most afraid of? Was there a specific incident that led to your fear, or is it just a general thing?
I'm scared of gorillas and monkeys. When I was very small, I had a recurring dream of being chased by a gorilla - it was horrifying. Then, my neighbor across the street dressed in a gorilla suit for Halloween and would just pop out to scare the kiddies, I was scared of going to that house all night. And then there was that incident where the little boy fell over the fence at the zoo and into the gorilla pit. I know that the gorilla didn't hurt him and even shocked the nation by treating him like her baby, but still. Terrifying!

Do you think high schools should give out free contraceptive?
Absolutely! You can teach abstinence all you like, but you are not going to stop kids from having sex. It's better that teens are educated and contraceptive is readily available. It's better than kids dropping out or starting day care programs in schools.

If you're eating out, and you perceive that your waiter/waitress is having a hard time/being hassled, would you give them a slightly higher tip...even if they screwed up your service too but quickly (and honestly) apologized to you for it?
No. lol..is that bitchy?

Do you buy stuff from the grade/junior high/high schoolers when they show up at your 0door as part of their fund raising for school equipment?
This doesn't happen in my neighborhood anymore, but back in the day my parents would. They'd buy those horrible popcorn tins that kids would sell for sports. As for myself, I use to buy candy bars, but that had nothing to do with the school or the sellers; I wanted the chocolate.

This doesn't have to end in tragedy.

There will be no white flag on my door.

I'd trade my soul for a wish.

Sleeping Beauty
1959
Mary Costa, Eleanor Audley, Barbara Luddy

Adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name. Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil witch Maleficent - who declares that before Aurora reaches her 16th birthday she will die by a poisoned spinning-wheel. To try to prevent this, the king places her into hiding, in the care of three goodnatured - but not too bright - fairies.
-----
I liked it, very fairy tale and romantic. I did think that Aurora moved remarkably slowly, I just wanted to jump in the movie and push her along! What can you say about 50's animation, though? I liked blue better than pink.

------
This was much more of a kid movie than I thought it would be. There were some lol moments, mostly Julia Roberts' passive aggressive comments. I'm not so sure I like Lily Collins, but Armie Hammer is a perfect Prince Charming.

Ghost Dad
1990
Bill Cosby, Kimberley Russel

However he gets into a cab that is driven by a maniac, and Elliot crashes and the next thing he knows he is floating around and finds himself in the lab of a scientist who studies paranormal. Elliot asks the scientist to send him back so that he could finish the deal and make sure that his children are taken cared of.
-----
This is not a movie I would normaly pick, but my aunt wanted to have a movie night, and this is what we chose from the free movies OnDemand. I was a little bothered that the children never mourned the death of their father and they were just fascinated that he was a ghost.

Pride&Prejudice
1995
Jennifer Ehle, Colin Firth, Adrian Lukis, David Bamber

Jane Austen's classic novel about the prejudice that occurred between the 19th century classes and the pride which would keep lovers apart.
-----
I have to say, I liked the movie better. I didn't like most of the actors, especially Mr. Collins. Okay, he's supposed to be a boring, insufferable man, but this guy was just a straight up creeper. I really did like the woman who played Elizabeth, and of course, Colin Firth. I am a woman after all and his good looks and charm really do get to you. Honestly, it just made me long for Matthew MacFadyen!

Sleeping Beauty
2011
Emily Browning

The nihilist college girl Lucy has a dysfunctional family and lives together with her sister and brother-in-law. She is financially supported by three minor jobs: she is submitted to a weird experiment in a laboratory; she cleans a restaurant; and she takes photocopies in an office. She finds an advertisement in the newspaper offering a job in a fancy brothel and paying US$ 250 per hour. The madam Clara hires her and she is assigned to serve drinks to wealthy clients on a dinner table wearing lingerie. Then Clara drugs her and she spends the night sleeping naked with impotent men that can do any kinkiness with her body but penetration.
------
I need to stop watching these bullshit "artistic" movies. Not only is it extremely disturbing and creepy, the dialogue doesn't make any sense. There is an extra creepy part where the camera is in such a way that it looks like the guy is looking at you. And I mean it felt like he could see me, and I couldn't even watch that scene. While I was looking away his whole unnecessarily long speech didn't make any sense at all. And then he got naked. Full frontal; I have never seen that in a movie. This movie is just disgusting. Don't see it.

The Vow
2012
Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum

Leo and Paige are a couple who just got married. After an accident, Paige is left unconscious, and when she awakes she doesn't remember Leo. Her parents, whom she hasn't seen since she and Leo got together, come and visit her. She can't believe that she hasn't seen them for such a long time. Leo wants to bring her home with him but her parents want her to go with them. She goes with Leo but when she doesn't recognize anything, she goes to her parents. And she wonders why did she cut off contact with her family. She also runs into her ex and wonders why they broke up. Leo tries to win her back by courting her again.
------
I was somehow left disappointed with this movie. Not as much romance as I expected. The ending also felt unresolved to me, which is weird because Chuck ended the same way and I thought it was beautiful. Maybe I just didn't believe them, I didn't feel any real chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Channing Tatum doesn't do anything for me.

Stardust
2007
Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pheiffer

In the 1800s, a boy becomes a man when he ventures through the breech in pursuit of a fallen star, to prove his love for the village beauty. The star is no lump of rock, it's a maiden, Yvaine. Tristan, the youth, is not the only one looking for her: three witches, led by Lamia, want her heart to make them young; and, the sons of the dead king of Stormhold want her because she holds a ruby that will give one of them title to the throne. Assisting Tristan are his mother, the victim of a spell, and a transvestite pirate of the skies. Will Tristan win his true love?
------
What a terrific movie! I have nothing but good feelings about it! It was a long movie, but I never once found myself glancing at the clock to see if it was almost over.

Hercules
1997
Tate Donovan, James Woods, Danny Devito

Hercules, son of the Greek God, Zeus, is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the Underworld, who plans to overthrow Zeus. Hercules is raised on Earth and retains his god-like strength, but when he discovers his immortal heritage Zeus tells him that to return to Mount Olympus he must become a true hero. Hercules becomes a famous hero with the help of his friend Pegasus and his personal trainer, Phil the satyr. Hercules battles monsters, Hades and the Titans, but it is his self-sacrifice to rescue his love Meg which makes him a true hero.
-----
Not one of Disney's finest. I didn't like Meg and Hades didn't seem all that villianous. Now we all know that Disney likes to sneak in other characters into their movies; Hercules having Scar's skin was just disturbing!

The Phantom of the Opera
2004
Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson

The Phantom is outraged by their love and kidnaps Christine to be his eternal bride. Will Raoul, the Vicomte, be able to stop this dastardly plan?
-----
Too. Much. Singing. I like musicals, but I wasn't expecting every word in this movie to be a song. I didn't like it.

Return To Me
2000
Minnie Driver, David Duchovny, Bonnie Hunt

The film opens with a loving husband and wife preparing for a very important fund raising dinner. The evening ends with the loss of the wife. In a hospital a weak young woman who may die soon if she can not get a new heart. Finally he actually shows up for one at an Irish-Italian restaurant where he finds himself more attracted to the waitress than his blind date. He finds an excuse to return to the restaurant in hopes of seeing the waitress again, there's just something attractive about her. Unknown to both the attraction they both feel for one another is Grace has the heart of Bob's dead wife...
-----
This is a decent watch. I think I would have liked it better if there was a different actor. I didn't really like David Duchovny.

Message in a Bottle
1999
Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn, Paul Newman

A woman finds a romantic letter in a bottle washed ashore and tracks down the author, a widowed shipbuilder whose wife died tragically early. As a deep and mutual attraction blossoms, the man struggles to make peace with his past so that he can move on and find happiness.
------
I really liked the beginning of this movie, but it just kind of fizzled for me. I also couldn't help thinking that I would never go sailing. It looks terrifying.

Nights in Rodanthe
2008
Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Viola Davis

Adrienne Willis, a woman with her life in chaos, retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her -- a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teen-aged daughter who resents her every decision. Almost as soon as Adrienne gets to Rodanthe, a major storm is forecast and a guest named Dr. Paul Flanner arrive. The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.
------
I didn't feel any chemistry between Richard Gere and Diane Lane. It had a shocker ending, but I didn't care enough about the characters to let the shock set in.

I cleaned up my GoodReads account, slimmed down my to-read list. I went from 274 to only 122.

My cousin has this idea that if something (a song, a movie, a tv show, whatever) becomes popular enough that people talk about it like everyone just knows it, you should experience it. All this brought on by the boys quoting Anchorman for quite awhile. So I have to see this movie because it's made it's way to pop culture mainstream. And my cousin has to watch Jersey Shore for that exact reason, and my brother has to watch Titanic.

At my aunt's party recently, people were upset that no one was dancing after they worked so hard on the party and the playlist. I think I know the rules to a great playlist, no matter the occasion. A dance playlist should be songs people can easily jump around to, songs that people know, they shouldn't be too long. A two minute guitar solo may be real cool, but it's just too long, people will get bored, and they'll walk away. With that in mind, avoid the seven minute techno songs, no one wants to hear that. There are a few staple songs...'Love Shack', 'Thriller', 'September', The Beatles are always good.

I never thought I'd need you there when I cried.

I would LOVE to find a message in a bottle!

I made it my goal to finish my current read before the weekend. I knew I could do it, I doubted that I would. The fates took that into their own hands by disconnecting the internet and then magically turned it back on just as I was closing the back cover.

I need to make a books post soon. I've finished four reads since the last time I posted.

Went shopping the other day and the store was decorated for Christmas! Yes, it's way too early, I mean it's still summer. That being said, I spent a good amount of time looking at all the ornaments.

I want your leather studded kiss in the sand.

I said it before, I think Castle and Beckett can work. The reason for that is that the show has never been about that. Sure, it's been there, but that hasn't been the focal point of the series. It's not going to get bad or boring because it isn't going to affect the police procedural part of the show. At least, that's what I think. What I hope.

The show The New Normal is causing controversy in small town America and being pulled off the air in certain areas. It's a comedy about a gay couple having a baby through surrogate. So it's no surprise that closed minded people have a problem with this, but why now? Why this show? There have been shows with gay couples before without controversy. Modern Family has received nothing but praise and they have had the same story-line for the second time. If The New Normal has anything controversial about it, it's the outrageously bigoted grandmother!

Has Peter ever said 'I love you'? Olivia said it right before Peter got in the machine and he responded with, "Don't say I never took you anywhere." Watching the dvds I discovered that he says that quite a bit. And every time he says it I just yell out, "Goddamnit Peter!' I've grown to really hate that expression. Maybe it's Peter's way of saying 'I love you'. His own little, "As you wish." The difference being I believed Westley really was telling Buttercup that he loved her. Peter just seems to be pussy-ing out on those three little words.

Dan should have won Big Brother. I understand why they didn't vote for him, he played a dirty game. He made promises and deals with everyone in the house. He swore on his grandfather, his wife, and the bible multiple times and then broke those promises. He back stabbed everyone and controlled everyone. He was responsible for evicting just about every juror member. And because of all that it really made a fun summer of Big Brother. He really deserved to win, the way he manipulated everyone around him and basically took control of everything. He is an evil genius. I'm actually afraid of him.

I can't believe the Awkward finale. She chose Mattie?! Jake was so much better for and to her! She just let Mattie treat her like crap and by getting back together with him she basically saying that was okay. I'm mad that she skipped out on a Europe trip to stay with a boy. What's even worse in my mind is that he wouldn't dance with her. Even if Jenna's mom didn't give her that little speech, that moment is very symbolic. I hate that she just gave in and sat on the sidelines watching everyone else have fun.

As for the after show....holy crap! I didn't recognize Ashley Rickards. I was looking at her and had no idea who it was. It wasn't until she spoke that I realized it was her. She's so tan and the makeup was really caked on and her hair is a disaster. She doesn't look like herself. I got the impression that she thought she was above that. The success of the show has gone to her head, I think.
